Fortnite v42.20: The Kingdom Key Mythic, New Overrides, and the Power Hour Sprite Collectors Should Watch
Sora's skin got its own post - here is the rest of v42.20: the Kingdom Key Mythic's real stats, six new Match Overrides, and a September 19-20 Power Hour with a genuine Sprite angle.
Sora's Keyblade and the heart-shaped moon over the island already got their own reveal posts here. This is the rest of it: the weapon that Keyblade actually attaches to, the six modifiers that showed up alongside it, and a weekend event that touches Sprite hunting directly enough that it belongs on this site.

The Kingdom Key is a real Mythic, not just a pickaxe skin
[Confirmed, Epic]: the official patch notes describe the Kingdom Key as a melee Mythic that lets you "unleash a flurry of melee combos and call down a shocking bolt on your opponents." Eliminating someone with it drops healing orbs for you and your squad.

[Reported, GameRant and community datamines]: swing damage sits around 40, the magic bolt hits for roughly 65 and recharges on a 16-second cooldown, and a jump attack lands closer to 35. Epic's own notes never publish exact numbers, so treat those three figures as community measurements rather than official stats until a patch update confirms them.
Sea Salt Ice Cream is the other headline item - a shareable consumable that tops up health and shield for whoever eats it and anyone standing nearby. It slots into the same "team support item" role Fortnite has used for years, just reskinned with the actual dessert from the games.
One detail worth noting for returning players: Rebecca's Guns, the dual-wielded AR/SMG combo, got pulled back into the loot pool for this patch too, alongside an exotic variant that ricochets its rounds. It isn't new, but if you haven't played since it got vaulted, it's live again.
Six new Overrides, two more landing September 24
Match Overrides are Epic's name for the modifiers that occasionally flip a match's rules mid-queue, and this patch adds a full set of them:
- Recovery - eliminating anyone with any weapon drops healing orbs for the whole lobby, not just your squad.
- Level Up - every player on your squad gets handed a Mythic Kingdom Key right where they're standing. Free Mythics, no looting required.
- Dynamic Storm - the storm picks up speed as the player count drops, so late game compresses faster than usual.
- Super Shot - guns occasionally fire rockets instead of bullets. Exactly as chaotic as it sounds.
- Big Boom - fall damage is off, and landing from height instead deals area damage to anyone underneath you.
- Healing Overdrive - using a heal triggers the Overdrive buff, on top of whatever it already does.
Two more, Suppressing Fire (bigger mags, infinite ammo) and Health Siphon (damage you deal heals you), are scheduled for September 24 and aren't live yet - reported, not something we'd bet the exact date on holding to the hour, but the patch notes list it plainly enough to treat as confirmed direction.
Overrides are randomized into normal matchmaking, so you can't queue for one specifically - you'll know it's active from the banner on the loading screen.
A mid-match climbing objective: Tetris Tower
New this patch, block towers are scattered across the map and climbing one to the top pays out rewards. It's a side objective, not tied to the storm or a POI takeover, so it's there if you want the loot and skippable if you don't.
The Power Hour that actually matters here: September 19-20
This is the part with a real Sprite angle, and it's dated, so don't let this article sit unread past the weekend.
Reported, multiple outlets agree on the same schedule: Saturday, September 19, 2-4 PM ET and 9-11 PM ET, plus a window early Sunday. During those windows, everyone spawns with a Kingdom Key and a Sea Salt Ice Cream already in hand, and outlets are also reporting a higher spawn rate for Hacker Sprite variants plus better chest loot generally.
Here's where we'll take a position instead of just repeating that: our own Loot Hacker sprite pages say plainly that the Hacker variant isn't a chest drop at all - it unlocks by leveling that Sprite's Gold variant to level 5 through Battle Royale wins, one win per step, Base to Cheat Master to Gold to Loot Hacker. If the outlets mean the base variant spawns more often (which feeds the win-streak grind faster because you're more likely to find the Sprite you need in the first place), that lines up with what we know. If they mean Loot Hacker itself is somehow dropping from chests this weekend, that would be a genuine mechanic change and we haven't seen Epic's own notes say so - so treat the "Hacker Sprites from chests" framing as unconfirmed until you see it happen in a match yourself.
Either way: if you're grinding toward a Loot Hacker unlock, this weekend's extra Sprite density is worth playing around, Mythic Keyblade or not.
Matchmaking: one less region to pick from
North America's separate regions got folded into a single NA pool with selectable subregions, so you can change your latency preference on the fly instead of restarting the client to switch servers. Reported, framed by Epic as a queue-time improvement that keeps skill-based matchmaking intact. Nothing here touches Sprites or loot, but if your queue times have been strange this week, this is why.
What the heart-shaped moon is actually about
The moon hanging over the island this patch isn't just set dressing for screenshots - both new Overrides spawn specifically underneath it, so it's doubling as a gameplay marker. Beyond that, outlet coverage is reading the timing as promotional: Kingdom Hearts 4 doesn't ship until late 2027, and a Fortnite crossover this size is the kind of thing publishers use to keep a franchise visible between releases. That's an interpretation, not a confirmed statement from Square Enix or Epic, so hold it loosely - but it's consistent with how past crossovers here have lined up with release windows for the source material.
Sora, Riku, Kairi and Roxas are all confirmed in the collab, with Roxas so far only teased rather than shipped as a full outfit. If a fifth character or a follow-up drop shows up before this event window closes, we'll add it here rather than write a second article for one more skin.
What this doesn't change
None of this touches how Sprites work, what counts toward mastery, or the Sprite Garden - that's all still governed by the mechanics our day-one piece already covered. This article is the rest of the patch: the Mythic, the Overrides, the event weekend, and the map dressing around them.
Track your sprite collection
However you spend the Power Hour weekend, your collection page tracks what you've actually caught, and trading is there if someone else pulled the Loot Hacker you're grinding for first.
